Charles Moen
1878/1957
Jan Katers was a great admirer of Charles Moen, who lived in Steenwijk.
Yes, I knew Charles Moen from vocational school, and old residents of Steenwijk will probably also know him as the man with the big flambard (big hat) and the big shepherd.. He had a big dog and the police sometimes made use of it..
Brother was a man of feelings and colors,
Moen was the academic draftsman! So, I benefited enormously from him when it came to drawing lessons.
I believe that both of those people shaped my artistic sensibility. Not to say my work, but of course that leaves its mark on your work later on as well. Yes, that was a very fascinating time!
